A Message from our District Commissioner, Jon Minshull:
Welcome to the August edition of Wyred, jam packed with lots of useful information to keep you up to date with everything Wyre Scouts!
I hope that you have had a fun filled summer holidays and enjoyed a nice break. As we start a new school year, and with lots to look forward to in Wyre Scouts, I am looking forward to seeing our members, both new and old, returning to our sections, taking part in our fantastic programme of activities run by amazing volunteers.
A massive thank you for all that you do!
– Jon
Wyre Scouts Annual General Meeting 2021:
We would love you to come along to our Annual General Meeting on Saturday, 11th September 2021 from 19:00 till 21:00.
The AGM will be an opportunity for us to celebrate Scouting in Wyre, to relefct on this past year and to prepare for the future!
District Camp 2022:
We’re really excited to announce that Wyre Scouts are running a District Camp from 3rd to 5th July 2022!!!
In order to help us make this the best experience possible for the young people who attend, we’re looking for five amazing volunteers to take on the following roles:
If you would like to put yourself forward for one of these roles, please fill in this short form by 15th September.
New District Appointments:
We’re really excited to announce that the following appointments have been made across Wyre Scouts. We hope you’ll join us into welcoming them into their appointments and we wish them every success in their roles!
District Development Fund:
We are delighted to launch the new Wyre Scouts Development Fund!
This fund has been established to support groups, sections and units with initiatives which they have to grow our membership and enabling more people to join our fantastic organisation.
Cubs Go Kayaking:
It seems like lots of our groups have been going kayaking recently! 1st Thornton Cubs, 1st Stalmine Cubs and 1st Thornton-Cleveleys had an amazing time at Fleetwood Boating Lake!
Tracy Douglas (ADC Cubs) said “they all enthusiastically joined in together showing fantastic team work canoeing and helping each other at kayaking”!
The 25th World Scout Jamboree:
We’re so excited that West Lancs Scouts has been allocated a unit of 36 young people and 4 leaders to become part of the UK Contingent to the 25th World Scout Jamboree in Korea during 2023.
That means we need to recruit 4 adult volunteers to become the Unit Leadership Team who make sure that our 36 young people will be empowered to be bold and brave to make the most of the life shaping experience the World Scout Jamboree will provide.
We’re supporting the UK Contingent’s vision to be the most inclusive UK Contingent to attend a World Scout Jamboree. There should be no unnecessary barriers to anyone becoming part of our Unit Leadership Team.
• Never been to a Jamboree before? – that’s OK!
• Not an Explorer Scout Leader? – absolutely no problem
• Never been on a plane? – step forward tiger!
The UK Contingent is not shying away from challenging the perceptions of who an adult jamboree volunteer is, so if you’re prepared to Think big. Dream wild and Act together why not leap at the opportunity to apply to join our team?
This is an adult role, and considering prior experience, the UK Contingent advise Unit Leaders and Assistant should be at least 18 years old by 1 January 2022.
Considering it?
Applications are open until Friday 10th September 2021 for candidates interested in these roles. Role Descriptions for Unit Leader and Assistant Unit Leader can be found on the West Lancs Scouts website. There is also a link to the online application form that can be accessed here.
