Think Big.
Dream Wild.
Act Together.

Unit 55 – West Lancs

Let the Journey Begin

In Summer 2023, more than 40,000 Scouts from all over the world will gather in Korea for the 25th World Scout Jamboree. We’re so proud that thousands of UK young people aged 14 to 17 and their leaders will be there, we’ll call ourselves the UK Contingent.

Our Contingent are more than just travel buddies, they are planners, fundraisers, motivators and mentors. We’ve got a lot to achieve in a short time but we’ll leap at the challenge as we… Think big. Dream wild. Act Together.

We don’t just dream. We act.

We dream about a sustainable world, where everyone’s welcome. But we’re not just about dreaming, Scouts want to see action too. Our UK Contingent won’t silently creep round global issues, we’ll be trailblazers for getting young voices heard… You’re gonna hear us roar.

We know that dreams come true when we work together.

Your Unit Leaders

The Leadership team for the next World Scout Jamboree in South Korea has now been selected. Thank you to everyone who applied.
The team are so excited and honoured to lead the next Unit to the WSJ and can’t wait to be visiting people across the County getting everyone involved in the journey!
Here’s a little bit about the team:

Matt Hornby – Unit Leader
Hi I’m Matt and I’m currently the ACC MarComms and a CSL in Blackpool. I have been fortunate to attend 2 previous World Scout Jamborees. The first was as a participant in Thailand and then as an Assistant leader for Japan in 2015. I am truly honoured and proud to have been appointed as the Unit Leader for the next WSJ in Korea!
The Jamboree for me is not just about those fortunate to attend as members of the unit but it’s about us as a County. I want to ensure that everyone across West Lancs has the opportunity to send a little bit of themselves with us to Korea….but more about that soon.
I would like to take the opportunity to thank everyone that applied to be an assistant leader and there were some tough decisions to make on selection. I’m looking forward to the adventure, developing our young people and strengthening a legacy for the County. I can’t wait to get started!

Andy Wroe – Assistant Leader
Andy is the leader of Ospreys Explorer Scout Unit in Ormskirk District, and told us  “Ever since I was a Cub, I’ve enjoyed the magic and buzz of being on a Scout camp. Now that I’m a leader, I enjoy teaching young people new skills, and I feel very lucky and honoured to be representing West Lancs. To share this experience with 50,000 Scouts and leaders from 167 different countries, on the worlds biggest Scout camp is going to be an amazing experience”.

Karen Kennedy
Hi, I’m Karen Kennedy. I’m currently the Group Scout Leader at 16th Fleetwood Scout Group in Wyre. For most of my scouting life, which is over 33 years of experience, I have worked mainly with Beavers and Cubs. This was until 2018 when I was chosen as part of the leadership team for the European Jamboree in Poland, which sadly got cancelled. I did however get the chance to join the Haarlem Jamborette in 2019 and I am due to visit Switzerland next summer with a group of Explorers. I am so excited to be part of the next World Scout Jamboree as it has been an ambition of mine since the Thailand WSJ in 2003. I’m looking forward to experiencing everything as well as making lifelong friendships with the rest of the leaders and the young people who will be selected as part of the West Lancs Unit. Being a part of this journey really is the pinnacle of my
Scouting career.

Joe Hargreaves-Lee
I’m Joe and I’m delighted to be apart of West Lancs 25th WSJ Unit as an Assistant Unit Leader. I’m currently an Assistant Explorer Scout Leader at Trogz ESU and the District Communications Manager for Fylde.
Outside of Scouting I’m a Level 3 Animal Management Lecturer, teaching students all about the wonderful world of animals and how to care for them.
I can’t wait to start the journey of and explore the country and culture of South Korea with the rest of Unit 55 whilst also attending the 25th WSJ.
