General Information for the Parade:
- Car Parking at Rverside Car Park, High Street will be free for a maximum of two cars per Group. Please do not arrive at the Car Park before 14:00 hours or you will be required to pay car parking fees. Car Parking permits supplied must be displayed in a prominent place in the car.
- 16th Fleetwood Scout Group will be responsible for providing a Beaver Scout, Cub Scout and a Scout for the Promises and Flag Bearers
- The Parade will be marshalled by a voluntary team of Explorer members who will all be wearing hi-visibility coats. The Parade Commander is Keith Rawcliffe, Life President 1st Garstang. Keith will be assisted by Tony Banks GSL 1st Garstang.
- Groups to assemble at Riverside Car Park, High Street, Garstang at 14:15 hours. Markers with each Group name will be placed at the point where the Group are to assemble.
- The Parade will be headed by the Union Flag, followed by the Flag of St George with each having 2 escorts walking slightly behind. DC to follow leading the District
- On the walk to the Church all the Flags will be paraded in an orderly manner at the front of the Parade.
- Each Group to select their own Flag Bearers.
- The ADCs /DESC will parade at the head of their Sections, with Leaders parading to the left of each line of their own specific Group. Any non-uniformed Leaders to form at the rear of the Section.
- Each Scout Group will walk to the Church in the following order: Beaver Scouts, Cub Scouts, Scouts, Explorers in ranks of four.
- All uniformed Leaders, unless the weather is inclement, should not wear or carry coats. The uniformed Leaders should be vigilant at all times to ensure the safety of the Young People.
- GSLs are responsible for ensuring that their Groups are formed up in the prescribed order, and all members are smart, wearing full uniform – with shirts tucked in
- The Parade Commander will be responsible for ensuring that everyone on Parade is Smart, disciplined and organised appropriately.
- GSLs to complete the attendance indicating numbers on Parade. This will be included in each information pack. This will be collected at 14:15 hours at the Car Park by an Explorer Scout and handed to Parade Commander.
- Scouting Awards/Decorations may be worn on uniforms in the prescribed manner.
- Each Section Leader is responsible for the conduct and safety of their Young People during the Parade and service and should make some effort prior to the event to ensure those attending are smart and understand the meaning of the day.
- It is expected that everyone, Scouts and Explorer Scouts, will have received some instruction in parading prior to the event. This is a high profile event and it is important that we portray a positive image, and this means no chatting while marching and all mobile phones switched off or on silence.
- The Parade will move off at 14:30 hours prompt once the Parade Commander Keith Rawcliffe has ensured that all roads are closed or ready to be closed by the Police, and it is safe to move off.
- The route to the St Mary and Michael’s Church will follow High Street, crossing the bridge into Bonds Lane turning left into the Church. Parade route included in pack.
- Upon arrival at St Mary and Michael’s Church, The Flags will form a guard either side of the Church West entrance, with the Union Flag on the left side heading the Guard and the Flag of St George on the right (as we look at the Church entrance) the guard to be of equal numbers on either side with Beavers, Cub Scouts, Scouts and Explorers. There will be a member of Fellowship to organise the Guard.
- The Parade will be instructed by Church Marshalls to enter the Church in the following order: Beavers, Cub Scouts, Scouts, Explorers and Wyre Dignitaries.
- Flag Bearers will be led into the Church by the Union Flag followed by the Flag of St George. Beavers, Cub Scouts, Scouts and Explorers in ranks of two following behind.
- The Union Flag and Flag of St George will form a guard at the steps of the altar whilst all other flags are presented. The Union Flag on the left, the Flag of St George on the right.
- Church Marshalls to escort flag bearers to their seats.
- The service will be led by Father Norman, Scout Chaplain with the assistance of Fr David. The service will be Young People focused.
- A collection will be made during the service for Children with Leukaemia. The collection team will comprise of four members of Fellowship, two Explorers and two Scouts.
- The Church Service will last approximately 45minutes
- At the end of the service flag bearers will leave the Church first, followed by the Clergy and dignitaries.
- At approximately 15:45 hours the Saluting Base party i.e. District Commissioner and Wyre Dignitaries are to walk to the Saluting base outside Royal Mail Sorting Office. The Base will be the first gateway nearest to Sainsbury’s entrance.
- When instructed by the Church Marshalls members are to leave the Church quickly and line up in the School yard. Beavers will be led out first followed by Cub Scouts, Scouts and Explorers.
- Leaders are asked to remind their Groups that the Parade Service is not yet over and assist the Parade Commander in ensuring that their Groups/Sections are lined up in the correct order.
- On the return parade each Group will walk in Section order as follows: Beavers, Cub Scouts, Scouts led by the GSL or Scouter in Charge. Flag Bearers will walk at the front of their Colony, Pack or Troop with Leaders walking on the left. Explorers, ADCs, Fellowship and any Wyre dignitaries not at Saluting base.
- The Parade will commence the return walk at approximately 15:50 hours once the Parade Commander has ensured that all the roads are closed or ready to be closed by the Police, and it is safe to move off.
- The Parade will follow Bonds Lane, crossing the Bridge into Park Hill Road, with a short pause at the War memorial to lay Roses, continuing on to the Car Park.
- The Saluting dais will comprise of:
- The Worshipful Mayor of Garstang
- The Worshipful Mayor of Wyre
- District Commissioner
- County Representatives
- Guide Commissioner
- Church Clergy
- Uniformed Dignitaries
- Wyre District President
- Wyre District Office Bearers
- Each Section Leader will instruct their Section to look left at the first marker – an Explorer Scout wearing a hi-visibility coat before the Saluting Dais. Only the GSL/Scouter in Charge and Section Leader salutes. At the second marker the Section Leader instructs their Section to look ahead.
- The Parade will make a short stop at the War memorial to allow a member of 16th Fleetwood to lay roses in memory of those who have died in the Middle East and Afghanistan conflict.
- Parade Dismissal – following a few short words by the Parade Commander. He will then bring the assembled Parade to attention for the Formal Dismissal with the Scout Salute. At the “Parade Dismiss” please allow any Dignitaries present to leave first, after which Leaders are requested to make every endeavour to ensure an orderly dispersal of participants.
