Dear Scouts and Explorer Scouts,

Well here it is, the opportunity of a lifetime!  Wyre District has been allocated 5 places to be part of the West Lancashire Contingent to attend the 22nd World Scout Jamboree at Kristianstad, Sweden.

The Jamboree will take place from Tuesday 27th July to Saturday 7th August 2011.  To take part, you must be 14, 15, 16 or 17 years of age on Tuesday 27th July 2007.  If you were born on or between these dates: 25th July 1993 to the 27th July 1997, you are eligible to attend.  It will be the opportunity to make friends with people from across the world and try out many different types of fun activities.  It is anticipated that there will be 400,000 young people from across the world. The Unit should experience Home Hospitality which could extend the Jamboree experience by 7 days either before or after the camp itself.

The first stage is to apply to attend the selection weekend. The application form will ask for basic details, name, address and date of birth.  Then it will ask why you want to go and for a supporting statement from a Leader who knows you well. Finally it will ask for a commitment by your Parents/Carers/Scout Group/Explorer Scout Unit to help fund raise. The Jamboree should not cost more than £1800.  We expect £600 will come from yourself or personal fund raising.  The remaining £600 will be donated by Wyre District on the condition that you commit yourself to District Fund Raising events.  You could choose not to fund raise at all. In which case, the cost of the Camp will not exceed £1200.
